Google PhD funding
Rosemary Nalwanga has just received a PhD fellowship from Google. Together with Dr. Godliver Owomugisha we will supervise her PhD trajectory on crop image analysis with low-cost computational models.
My NWO-VENI project was granted!
I received national personal funding to develop my research project titled “Understanding social interactions in first-person videos with multimodal learning”.
Erasmus+ KA171 project funded
As a PI and together with Dr. Godliver Owomugisha, we received 54k€ Erasmus+ 171 funding to foster collaboration between the University of Twente and the Universities of Busitema (Tororo) and Makerere (Kampala), Uganda, during the AYs 2024-2026.
I am joining the organisation of the Women in Computer Vision (WiCV) workshop at CVPR 2024.
I will be co-chair of WiCV. I look forward to supporting this community!

Together with Nils Murrugarra-llerena (Weber State University) and Gilberto Ochoa (Tecnologico de Monterrey), we received a Google award. Our project “LATAM Undergraduate Research Program” aims to build research skills among Latin-American students in computer vision. Link to the project website.
I was invited to the International Summer School organised by the Universidad Panamericana
During the summer school, I gave a two weeks course on ML and CV to undergraduate students.

Our workshop LatinX in CV (LXCV) Research at CVPR was a success.
We had 10 full papers accepted, 22 extended abstracts and more than 60 attendees.
My PhD student Willams de Lima Costa presented our work “High-level context representations for emotion recognition in images”.

I visited Busitema and Makerere Universities through our Erasmus+ 171 funding.
Funding granted! Research funding within the ERJU (European Joint Rail Undertaking) project.
The project and grant are shared with Luuk Spreeuwers and Nicola Strisciuglio in the DMB group. The goal is to develop frameworks for intelligent video gates to control and monitor the maintenance of trains and tracks along the European rail network.

I was selected as general co-chair, together with Fabian Caba, for the next edition of LatinX in CV at CVPR2023.
Our next workshop will again have proceedings and will be onsite in Vancouver. See you there!
